Neighborhood Spotlight: Old Northeast

Happy Halloween from your favorite Ladies in Red! We’ve got a special edition of neighborhood spotlight all about the Historic Old Northeast.

St. Petersburg North Shore Historic District known to the locals as the Old Northeast was established as a US. historic district in 2003. It has over 2500 historic buildings but is best known to residents for it’s huge halloween block party!

All of the neighbors of this beautiful St. Pete neighborhood decorate their homes elaborately for this festive holiday.  Tampa Bay Times calls this the biggest celebration in the Tampa Bay area. The Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association has even started a contest for the best decorated house.

Our own Jenny Reese has lived in Old Northeast her entire life. Her family home is located in the heart of Old Northeast and Jenny recalls first hand how extravagant Halloween has grown to be in her neighborhood. With over 2500 trick-or-treaters coming through the neighborhood it is truly a spectacular event to behold.

Her own family has decorated their house in many different themes over the years including The Wizard of Oz, The Addams Family, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland and Pirates of th Caribbean. Jenny even remembers a year that her father built a ship’s bow on the front yard where they all stood and threw beads to trick-or-treaters!

Outside of Halloween Jenny likes all the “eclectic nature with homes being built in the 1920’s til now.” The residents are also close to the water, beautiful parks and the downtown area.

Another great neighborhood in St. Pete that offers something unique for all of its neighbors!
